Athora identification of opportunities and use of TeamMate
Written by Rob Van Wesel
Athora operates through several subsidiaries across Europe, including Athora Netherlands NV. The company focuses on acquiring and managing life insurance portfolios, providing policyholders with stable, long-term returns, reflecting its significant presence in the European life insurance consolidation market.
Athora has been using TeamMate+ as its audit management system for many years. The Athora Internal Audit team identified the challenge that they are not yet utilising the TeamMate benefits yet and feel efficiency gains can be achieved in using the right features, possibilities during their audit process. Also new introduced features by TeamMate, remain unused at this moment.
Athora wanted the following value from our support:
- Identify practical opportunities and action points to improve the overall efficiency of the Internal Audit team in working with TeamMate.
- Identify quick-wins to further benefits of unused possibilities of TeamMate+.
- Create more impact from the data within TeamMate as part of stakeholder reporting and collaboration.

Assessing current use of TeamMate possibilities identifying efficiency potential
Together with their champions we assess their current use of TeamMate+ to identify inefficiencies, unused capabilities of the application, and what data capturing will support reporting needs. We turn identified areas to better leverage TeamMate, into concrete internal audit and stakeholder benefits that underpins further automation, risk-based audit planning and practical reporting needs.
Scanning how TeamMate is used for further streamlined use and better reporting
Through data analysis we analysed the configuration and the fieldwork capturing in TeamMate. This provides tangible insights in how consistent the audit team uses the available options and identifies where complex fieldwork documentation occur. Also, through sessions with the audit team we identified where manual activities come in that could be reduced. By understanding the audit purpose and reporting needs, we are able to lessen what needs to be documented and improve the quality of documentation, to be leveraged when generating audit reporting for alignment with respective stakeholders.
Internal Audit Team-workshop to jointly reach an uplifted and more effective use of TeamMate
As part of the Internal Audit Team-workshop, we as BR1GHT facilitate the process to bring forward with practical use cases, the identified improvement areas and opportunities. During the workshop we challenge the team and through voting we enable a team generated roadmap and priority setting. Resulting in achievable enhancements to be applied in TeamMate and the Internal Audit reporting process.
